Micah 3
God's Judgment on Leaders

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Stella

Introduction: Every leader should exercise their authority with a heart that fears God.

I. Leaders Who Abuse Authority for Personal Gain (Micah 3:1–4)

1. Twisting Justice and Ruthlessly Exploiting Others (V1–3)

These leaders knew what justice was, yet they “hate good and love evil”, treating the people like sacrifices—“stripping off their skin and tearing their flesh”, draining resources and trampling on justice. This passage reminds us that whether in the family, church, or workplace, the authority we hold is entrusted by God to serve others, not for selfish gain.

2. Disaster Comes, and God Hides His Face (V4)

When these leaders cry out to God in disaster, they find that He turns His face away. In times of prosperity, they ignored God's will, only seeking Him in crisis. This warns us that reverence for God shouldn't be treated as an "insurance policy" in hard times, but rather a daily discipline of life.

II. Prophets Who Speak Lies for Profit (V5–7)

1. Prophesying for Personal Gain (V5)

These false prophets speak peace when they are fed, but pronounce doom when they receive nothing. Their messages are motivated by transactions, not by God. Today’s preachers and believers must also reflect: Are we merely speaking words that please people, or are we faithfully proclaiming God's truth?

2. Losing Vision Brings Shame (V6–7)

God ceases to speak to them, and they are left in darkness and shame. Without revelation from God, the title of “prophet” becomes meaningless. If the church today loses the true revelation of God, it too will lose its direction and fall into spiritual darkness and confusion.

III. God's Prophet Speaks by the Power of the Spirit (V8)

Micah declares: “But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression.” He does not rely on profit or popularity but faithfully speaks God’s word and boldly exposes sin. The mark of a true leader of God is not a loud voice or a large following, but the presence of the Holy Spirit and the authority of truth. Let us continually seek the filling of the Holy Spirit, so that we may live righteously and proclaim truth in this generation.

IV. Injustice Brings Destruction (V9–12)

1. Hating Justice and Perverting the Right (V9–11)

Micah fearlessly exposes systemic corruption. Even worse, these leaders deceive themselves, thinking that as long as they have the temple, priests, and rituals, God will remain with them. They rely on religious form but ignore God's demands for justice and integrity.

True spiritual life is not about outward forms, but about inner repentance, honesty, and a life that practices justice.

2. Corrupt Leadership Brings Ruin (V12)

Micah solemnly declares that God's judgment will come because of corrupt leadership. The word “corruption” here isn’t about individual failings alone, but the collapse of the entire spiritual leadership system. These leaders lost justice, misled the people, and caused the downfall of the nation and the ruin of the city.

Conclusion:

May we examine ourselves often, not relying on external religious forms, but truly being filled with the Holy Spirit. Let us be people of truth and courage, God’s messengers in our generation.
